Playa del Carmen, day 8: heading home

|

After a wonderful week in Playa del Carmen, we packed up and headed home. The trip was filled with amazing experiences, from exploring ancient ruins to enjoying the local cuisine and culture. We made memories that will last a lifetime and are grateful for the time spent together as a family.

We woke up, organized our bags, cleared out the rooms and ate as many of the fridge remains as we could before getting in the van. We convinced the driver to stop for 5 min outside the main mall so Becca could run in and procure several bottles of last minute vanilla extract. Noah started to feel bad on the drive despite the Dramamine and we had some trouble with the bag check printer at our kiosk. Other than that–smooth sailing. We enjoyed some burgers, fries, and fried rice at Panda Express and Johnny Rocket’s in the airport and hopped on our first flight home.

The longest part of the return flight was the immigration line back into the US. We were in line for at least an hour, and held spaces for people before and after us to go to the bathroom–even for US citizens, it was a bit embarrassing. But we made it through, and were able to get our bags and head home. We were all tired, but happy to be back in our home with our pets and in our own beds.

I’m so grateful for the time we had in Mexico, and for the memories we made as a family. It was a trip that will be remembered for years to come, and I’m already looking forward to our next adventure together.
